
Emanuel Brighiu Honored By Mountain West

FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU senior Emanuel Brighiu has been selected as the Mountain West Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.
Brighiu, from Iasi, Romania, went a combined 4-0 last week as TCU went upended No. 59 SMU (W, 5-2) and No. 53 UNLV (W, 6-1). On Wednesday against the Mustangs, Brighiu and partner Christopher Price defeated Tobias Flood and Joe Hattrup, 8-5, at the top of the doubles lineup, before upsetting 44th-ranked Artem Baradach, 7-6 (8), 5-7, 6-4, at the No. 1 singles spot. Then on Sunday's matchup with the Rebels, Brighiu and Price won the doubles point for the Horned Frogs by notching an 8-2 victory over Mehdi Bouras and Johannes Markel at the No. 1 position. In singles completion, Brighiu went on to upend Bouras, the 62nd-ranked singles player in the NCAA, in straight sets (6-3, 6-2).
The league honor is the second of the season for Brighiu and the fourth weekly accolade of his career.
The Frogs will now prepare for the 2011 MWC Championships, hosted by Colorado State, April 27-30.
