HERE FOR YOU
This is your program, and I'm more than happy to share with anyone the reasons for every decision we make. We pride ourselves on being very transparent. Please feel free to drop me an e-mail (delconte@tcu.edu) or contact my office (817-257-7710) to set up an appointment. We'll be glad to answer any questions you have regarding all aspects of our athletics program.
TICKETS AND PARKING
Any day now, you'll be receiving information on football season ticket and parking renewals for the 2011 season. There is indeed a lot of change coming this fall, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience that is being felt by everyone. We ask for your patience as we diligently work through our renovation and do the best job possible to ensure a quality experience for those displaced from their normal seating area in 2011. Please remember that this is for just one season only.
FUNDRAISING UPDATE
Fundraising is going well and these are exciting times, but we need everyone's help with our final push to be able to renovate the east stands of Amon G. Carter Stadium in time for 2012. At this time last year, we were faced with a daunting task of raising $105 million to renovate the west side. Thanks to a team led by Chancellor Boschini, Gary Patterson and Davis Babb, we have now raised just under $130 million. We are continuing the momentum by raising the additional funds needed to have the entire stadium renovated in time for the 2012 season.
SUITES AVAILABLE
We still have three suites remaining for purchase on the west side of Amon G. Carter Stadium. Please contact TCU associate athletics director Davis Babb (d.babb@tcu.edu or 817-257-5658) with any questions. In the season-ticket mailing you'll be receiving, there is also information on the advance sale of 2,300 club seats on the west side when our stadium renovation is completed in 2012.
POSTSEASON HOOPS
Congratulations to our women's basketball program on an 11th consecutive postseason appearance. We'll host Oral Roberts Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the first round of the WNIT at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. With our campus and many local school districts on Spring Break, we'll need as many of you as possible in attendance to help provide a nice home-court advantage for head coach Jeff Mittie and his student-athletes.
VOICES OF THE FROGS
It was great to see our outstanding radio crew of Brian Estridge, John Denton and Jeff Williams recognized once again as the best live sports play-by-play in the state. They do an unbelievable job in telling our story. They won their competition for the second time in three years while going head-to-head against other colleges as well as professional sports broadcasts.
GREAT LEADERS
Congratulations to Karen Monez on being named the 2011 Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association Coach of the Year. We've now had three of our coaches be named national coaches of the year in the last two seasons. Karen joins the ranks of Gary Patterson and Jim Schlossnagle. Speaking of Coach Patterson, he has been named the 2011 recipient of the prestigious Distinguished Texan Award presented by the National Football Foundation's Gridiron Club of Dallas. The previous two recipients were Grant Teaff and Jerry Jones.
NATION'S BEST
Our football program and Coach Patterson received additional exposure when TCU was ranked No. 1 by ESPN.com for developing NFL talent. It's another testament to the impact the best football coach in America and his outstanding staff have on student-athletes.
ON THE HOME DOCKET
Make sure to drop by the Lowdon Track and Field Complex this weekend as we host the TCU Invitational. The college division will be held all day Friday with high schools in action Saturday. There will also be plenty of tennis (and pizza) at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center on Thursday as our men and women are home simultaneously at 2 p.m. The men host Columbia while the women face Kentucky. The men also have a Friday 6 p.m. match versus New Mexico State. Don't forget there's free Mama's Pizza available for all fans in attendance at our home tennis matches.
TOP PERFORMANCES
We didn't repeat as rifle national champions, but it's still pretty impressive to finish third at the NCAA Championships. On that same day, our women's indoor track and field program had its best finish in program history as it tied for 13th at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Among our many standouts was Jessica Young who finished second in the 60 meters with a time of 7.17 seconds. Edgar Crespo will represent our men's swimming and diving team in the 100 breaststroke at next weekend's NCAA Championships in Minneapolis.
HONOR ROLL
All five of the student-athletes we brought to the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships received All-America honors. We also had four All-Americans in rifle.
KEEP IN TOUCH
As mentioned earlier, please let us know if you ever have any questions or concerns regarding our program.
