Rifle In Fourth After Smallbore Competition

COLUMBUS, Ga. - The TCU Rifle team sits in fourth place after the smallbore portion of the NCAA National Championships. The Horned Frogs fired a 2,313 and sit just two points out of third place heading into the air rifle competition on Saturday. Caitlin Morrissey qualified for the finals and finished sixth.After shooting a 584 in the opening relay of the day, Morrissey fired a 98.1 in the finals for a combined score of 682.1. That score was good enough for a sixth place finish on Friday.
Sarah Scherer shot a 581 in the third relay, while Sarah Beard fired a 574 in the same relay. Scherer's score placed her 12th overall. Shooting in her first finals, freshman Catherine Green shot a 574 to give the Frogs a team score of 2,313. Also shooting, but not factoring in the team score was Mattie Brogdon, who shot a 572.
The University of Kentucky was crowned the Smallbore National Champions with a team score of 2,336.
The final day of the competition is set for Saturday. Morrissey will kick off the day in the first relay beginning at 8 a.m.
