
Dalton and Scherer Are January's Scholar-Athletes

FORT WORTH - TCU's Andy Dalton and Sarah Scherer are the Scholar-Athletes of the Month for January, the TCU Athletics Department announced Tuesday.
Dalton, a December graduate with a marketing degree, was named the Rose Bowl Game Offensive MVP after leading TCU to a 21-19 win over Wisconsin on Jan. 1. It was the third bowl-game MVP honor of Dalton's career.
The Katy, Texas, native completed 15-of-23 passes for 219 yards and one touchdown on TCU's first offensive possession of the game. He also added 28 yards rushing and scored once on the ground.
Dalton left TCU as the nation's active leader in career wins after amassing a 42-7 record as a starting quarterback. He holds every major TCU passing record and was twice the MWC's Offensive Player of the Year.
Scherer, firing on an Olympic course that consists of 40 shots, shot a 396 in the qualifying round to finish in a six-way tie for third place. The top eight shooters advanced to the final round that consisted of firing 10 shots.
Through the first nine shots of the round, Scherer trailed by 0.8 points. On her final shot, the sophomore fired a 10.8 to win the gold medal. Scherer's final tally of 104.4 was just 0.1 of a point ahead of second-place 104.3.
On day two, the Fort Worth, Texas, native fired a 397 in the qualification round, putting her in a three-way tie for third place. In the final round, Scherer fired a 101.1 to finish with a final score of 498.1, which placed her in fourth place.
