Megan Munce tallied her ninth double-double of the season with 37 assists and 11 digs. Sloane Sunstrum knocked down 10 kills, served up a pair of aces and tallied seven digs. Yvonne Igodan pitched in with nine kills and Jordan Raines with eight. Stephanie Holland added five kills to her two blocks. Igodan paced all blockers with three. Sarah Joeckel racked up a match-high 22 digs and Raines pitched in with 12.
UNLV jumped out to an early 8-5 lead, but a blast from Igodan killed the Rebels momentum and set the Frogs on the comeback path. TCU went on an 11-2 run, opening up a 16-10 lead to take control of the set. Raines tied things at 10 with a power swing on the outside and back-to-back hitting errors by the Rebels gave the Frogs breathing room. A kill by Raines capped an 11-1 run by the Frogs, forcing the Rebels to take a second timeout.
Following the break, UNLV climbed back into the set with a furious 5-0 run to make it a 19-16 contest. Raines put a halt to the run and Holland knocked down a pair kills to give TCU a more comfortable 22-16 lead. Sunstrum gave TCU the 25-20 victory with her third kill of the set.
A much more competitive set in the second saw 13 ties and three lead changes, but it was the Horned Frogs who came out on top, 25-21. UNLV had the early push, only to see the Frogs once again battle back. Trailing 10-7, Sunstrum hammered a kill off the block and TCU eventually tied the set at 10 on a Rebel attacking error.
A back-and-forth battle ensued, but TCU eventually worked the set to its advantage, 21-19 on a kill from Sunstrum. The Rebels fought back with a pair of kills by Makenzie Moea'I, forcing a TCU timeout. The break worked as the Frogs rattled off four straight points to win the set. Hester was instrumental with a pair of kills and Joeckel's overpass fell harmlessly to the court for the set-winning point.
TCU took control of the third set early, racing out to a 9-4 lead. Hester, Sunstrum and Raines tallied kills in the early run and Igodan teamed with Holland on a block in the middle to cap the rally and force a Rebel timeout.
UNLV used the break to its advantage and worked the set to an 18-all tie. The Frogs responded with a 3-0 run to regain a 21-18 advantage. The run was aided by kills from Hester and Stunstrum, prompting another Rebel timeout.
Out of the break, the Rebels used a 4-0 run to take a 22-21 lead. Again, the Frogs refused to back down and tied the set on a kill by Raines. A miscue by the Rebels gave TCU match point and Raines finished off the 25-23 victory.
TCU (21-4, 8-3) returns to the court Saturday afternoon to take on San Diego State. Match time is slated for 2 p.m. (CST).
