Frogs Open Play at isleworth

WINDMERE, Fla.—The TCU men's golf team opened action at the annual Isleworth Collegiate Invitational Sunday at Isleworth Country Club. The Horned Frogs sit in 12th place among a challenging 15-team field following Round 1 competition.
TCU, rated 31st according to the latest release of the Golfweek/Sagarin national collegiate team rankings, is one of 11 squads in the tournament ranked among the nation's top-38 teams.
The Frogs combined to record a 15-over-par score of 303 Sunday. Texas, which leads the field at -10 overall, experienced a strong opening day to claim a nine-stroke edge on the rest of the field. TCU trails 11th-place Texas Tech (+13) by two strokes.
Freshman Julien Brun, who is tied for 17th place in the individual standings, again led the Frogs while firing a 1-over 73 Sunday. Brun sandwiched a pair of birdies around a bogey on holes 10 and 11 and appeared headed for a par round before bogeying the day's final hole. It marked only his second above-par score in 10 rounds this fall.
Senior Johan de Beer and junior Daniel Jennevret find themselves among a five-player group tied for 46th place after each finished the opening round +4 (76). De Beer also suffered a tough finish to his round, posting double bogeys on holes 17 and 18. Jennevret totaled three birdies on the day but was hampered by five bogeys and one double.
Junior Pontus Gad, who concluded the TCU scoring with a 6-over score of 78, is tied for 56th place, while freshman Thomas Mantovanini, who is playing in his first career varsity tournament, is tied for 66th after firing an opening-round 80 (+8).
Competition at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational continues in Florida with 18 holes each Monday and Tuesday.
