
Frogs Lose Heartbreaker at Baylor, 3-2

WACO, Texas - The TCU Horned Frogs were a touch away from their first-ever win over Baylor only to see it turn into a devastating 3-2 (25-15, 26-24, 19-25, 26-28, 12-15) loss Tuesday night. Christy Hudson, Irene Hester and Meghan Horio all notched double-doubles in the loss. Hudson and Irene Hester each set career-highs with 22 digs in the match.Irene Hester racked up a team-high 19 kills in the match and complimented that with 22 digs. Kristen Hester finished the match with a career-high 17 kills. Hudson totaled 16 kills to go along with 22 digs. Horio completed her fourth double-double with 52 assists and had 16 digs. Kay Lin Connolly picked up 16 digs and Jordan Raines tallied 12. Kristen Hester led the blockers with four.
Baylor helped the Frogs early in the first set, committing seven attack errors. Along with kills from Hudson, Kristen Hester and Irene Hester, the Frogs were able to push the lead to 10-7, forcing a Bear timeout.
Out of the break, the Frogs weathered a 3-0 run by the Bears that cut the lead to two, 12-10. A service error by Baylor put the Frogs back in control and back-to-back kills from Hudson extended the Frog lead to five, 15-10.
The Frogs went on a devastating 4-0 run that pushed the lead to eight, 19-11, on kills from Sloane Sunstrum and Irene Hester. A block from Kristen Hester and Horio made it 22-13. Hudson pushed the Frogs to set point and Kristen Hester sealed the 25-15 victory with her fourth kill of the set.
After giving up 12 points on miscues in the first set, the Bears turned things around in the second set, taking advantage of Frog mistakes to open up a 15-10 lead. The Frogs had battled back from a 7-2 deficit to pull within one, 7-6, on a solo block in the middle by Kristen Hester. Baylor responded with an 8-4 run to regain the five point advantage.
The Frogs righted the ship and went on a 7-2 run of their own to get the set tied at 17. Hudson drilled two kills and was aided by blasts from Sunstrum and Irene Hester in the rally. The teams traded 2-0 runs with the Bears taking the 21-19 advantage, forcing a TCU timeout.
Kristen Hester and Irene Hester rallied the troops and propelled the Frogs on a 4-1 run, combining for three kills that gave TCU the 23-22 lead. The teams traded points to 24, but Hudson eventually gave the Frogs set point and another attack error by the Bears sealed the 26-24 set two victory.
Baylor led from start to finish in the third set as it climbed back in the match with a 25-19 victory. The Frogs attempted to get back in the set, trailing 22-14. The Frogs rattled off three points to pull within five, but a lucky kill from Ashlie Christenson fell just in bounds to push the lead back to six and the Bears cruised from there.
The fourth set was a battle from the first point with neither team able to get a firm grasp on the lead. The Bears led 11-8 only to see Fort come alive at the net with three kills by Hannah Fort to put TCU on top 12-11. TCU made it a two-point lead, 15-13, on kills from Irene Hester and Hudson.
Out of a Baylor timeout, the Bears took control with a monstrous 10-3 run that put them up 23-18. TCU staged a furious comeback, getting the set tied at 23 and taking a 24-23 lead. Fort pitched in a solo block in the middle and Irene Hester blasted two kills in the 7-0 run.
It wasn't to be as Baylor staved off match point on a controversial call at the net and back-to-back kills from Elizabeth Graham gave the Bears at 28-26 set four win, forcing a fifth set.
The fifth set was a mirror-image of the way the match went as the teams battled through six ties and four lead changes. Baylor had the early 9-7 edge, only to see the Frogs battle back to tie the set on a kill from Irene Hester.
Baylor responded with a 3-0 run, but the Frogs cut the lead to one on an ace from Horio, forcing a Bears timeout. Baylor wrapped up the come-from-behind win with a 3-1 run to win 15-12.
TCU falls to 3-4 on the season. The Frogs remain on the road as they head to Rutgers for a three-match tournament. TCU will face George Mason Friday morning in its only match of the day. The match will begin at 11 a.m. (CST).
