
TCU Women Earn Runner-Up Honors In Waco

WACO, Texas - Sophomore Agnes Kemboi opened her 2010 cross country season in fine fashion on Friday night, crossing the finish line in third-place at the Bear Twilight Invitational.As a team, the TCU women, who earned second-place accolades in the final team standings with 43 points, finished ahead of No. 1 regionally ranked SMU and No. 15 North Texas. Host school Baylor captured the women's title with 22 points. On the men's side, the Horned Frogs placed fourth overall with a total of 111 points. The Bears also won the men's team title on Friday with a total of 29 points.
"Overall, I thought the kids competed well," said distance coach Shawn Winget. "We have a long ways to go, but we are on our way."
Kemboi just missed clocking a second-place performance at the Baylor Intramural Fields, placing third overall in the women's 4K with a time of 14:08.1. The Kenya natives time is the top-time in the Mountain West Conference this fall. Freshman Amanda Throckmorton followed in sixth-place with a time of 14:12.8, while sophomore Tricia Terry made her 2010 debut recording a time of 14:29.9 to place 10th overall.
Katie Dalton paced the next pack of Horned Frogs, turning in a 14th-place showing, while Paige Throckmorton finished 16th out of 99 competitors. Kelly Dawson rounded out the Frogs' top 25 placings, crossing the finish line in 21st-place. Finally, senior Tanja Ivandic placed 32nd overall on Friday night.
Jeff Pels had a solid day for the TCU men in Waco, clocking a 12th-place finish with a time of 19:23.5. Jake Rossmango and Douglas Moore followed in 26 and 27th-place in the men's 6K, respectively. Finally, Louis Tijerina, a junior from Brownsville, finished 28th overall out of 99 competitors on Friday.
The Horned Frogs will next be in action at the UTA Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 11.
