
Frogs Suffer Heartbreaking Loss To No. 21 LSU

Meghan Horio guided the offense, totaling 37 assists. She completed her second double-double of the season, pitching in with 17 digs. Irene Hester also picked up her first double-double of the season, adding 12 digs to her 23 kills. Sloane Sunstrum tallied nine kills and had 10 digs in the match. Kristen Hester led the net attack with five blocks to go along with eight kills and three service aces. Kay Lin Connolly tied for the team lead with 17 digs and Christy Hudson totaled 15 to go along with seven kills.
TCU looked poised to take an early 1-0 lead in the match as it raced out to a 19-10 lead. Kristen Hester and Irene Hester were firing on all cylinders with kills and solid defense in the back row helped the Frogs control the set.
A kill from the Tigers' Angela Bensend turned the tide as LSU fought back to pull within one, 19-18. A service error stemmed the tide and set up an exciting finish. The Frogs had set point twice, but couldn't come up with the point and the Tigers took the 27-25 win on a Desiree Elliott/Madie Jones block in the middle.
LSU took control of the match with a 22-kill effort in set two, winning 25-19 to take a commanding 2-0 match lead.
The comeback was on in the third set as the Frogs overcame an early 8-5 deficit to take a 25-20 victory. Kristen Hester started the comeback with an ace while Hannah Fort and Sloane Sunstrum delivered kills to take the lead.
The Tigers and the Frogs battled to a 20-all tie before a blast from Irene Hester put TCU on top to stay. A block by Fort and Irene Hester made it 23-20 and back-to-back hitting errors by the Tigers gave the Frogs the win.
TCU completed the comeback with a dominating set four performance. With the set tied at 10, Horio dumped the ball over the net to put the Frogs on top to stay. Hudson kept the momentum rolling with a kill and the errors by the Tigers mounted. A denial on the outside by Horio and Kristen Hester put the Frogs comfortably in the lead at 20-16.
Kristen Hester slammed home a kill and Irene Hester tallied her fourth kill of the set to push the Frogs to set point, 24-18. Fort completed the comeback with her second kill of the set, forcing a fifth set with a 25-18 win.
The comeback was not to be as the Tigers raced out to an early 8-1 lead in the decisive set. The Frogs continued to fight, pulling back within one, 8-7, behind the solid service game from Hudson. Kristen Hester and Sunstrum teamed on a block on the outside to keep the momentum in the Frogs court. A blast from Sunstrum made it a one-point game and forced an LSU timeout. Out of the break, the Tigers quickly halted the Frog rally and pushed the lead back to three. The Frogs wouldn't recover and dropped an 11-15 heartbreaker.
TCU (3-2) returns to the court on Saturday afternoon to wrap up play in the Molten Invitational. Game time against Central Arkansas is set for 1 p.m. at the University Rec Center.
