
Beard and Scherer Win Gold at World Championships

FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU rifle team members Sarah Beard and Sarah Scherer recently completed a successful run at the 2010 World Championships held in Munich, Germany. The duo helped lead the United States to a gold medal in the smallbore 3-position junior world championships.
Beard and Scherer teamed up with Ohio State's Amanda Furrer to take home the gold medal, defeating Germany by 14 points and the Chinese team by 11. The combined effort of 1747 total points (586 points from Furrer, 582 from Scherer, and 579 from Beard) was the golden standard that demolished the old world record by 11 points.
In the individual portion of the championships, Scherer took home a silver medal in smallbore 3-position after shooting a 585. Beard also faired well, finishing 11th in the world with a score of 576. All this was accomplished at an outdoor range in cold and rainy weather.
Beard also competed in the 50-meter smallbore rifle prone Junior Women World Championships. She took home a silver medal in the event, finishing one point behind the gold medalist with a score of 595.
In other rifle team news, Caitlin Morrissey took home a National Championship at the NRA National Smallbore Position Championships. She laid claim to the junior championship which earned her a selection to the Drew Cup team after firing the highest score with a 581.
