FORT WORTH, Texas -- All TCU football games this season will be broadcast live in Spanish on AM 1270 Univision Radio in the Dallas-Fort Worth market.
The Spanish-speaking broadcast will supplement the Horned Frogs' regular game coverage on WBAP AM 820 and 96.7 FM as well as KTCU 88.7 FM and www.GoFrogs.com.
TCU will be the only school in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex to have a Spanish radio broadcast in addition to its regular game coverage.
Veteran broadcaster Miguel Cruz will handle the Spanish play-by-play duties with former TCU safety Elvis Gallegos on color commentary.
"We are very excited to expand our reach into the Hispanic community through our new relationship with Univision," TCU director of intercollegiate athletics Chris Del Conte said. "We have made a concerted effort to market into the large Hispanic population in the Metroplex. This is a positive step in growing our fan base."
Cruz has spent the last seven years covering sports in the Dallas-Fort Worth market for Univision. In addition to hosting the daily radio show Ultima Jugada on AM 1270 and collaborating on the weekly television show Accion Deportiva Extra on Univision 23, Cruz has also been a sideline reporter for the Dallas Cowboys. He has also served as the color analyst on Dallas Mavericks' Univision radio broadcasts.
Gallegos, a physical education teacher and boys' athletic coordinator at Central Junior High School in the Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD, was a four-year letterman (2003-06) for the Horned Frogs. He appeared in 45 games with seven starts. He was TCU's second-leading tackler in 2004 with 56 stops.
The Spanish radio broadcasts will tie in with TCU's fifth-annual Fiesta de los Frogs promotion, scheduled for the Oct. 9 home game with Wyoming.
Fans are invited to come early and enjoy music by the Tejas Brothers in Frog Alley starting at 12:30 p.m. as well as other special events at Amon G. Carter Stadium celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month.
Fiesta de los Frogs is one of three events to team with the Fort Worth Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to help celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Three celebrations, dubbed the "Tres Celebraciones," will be held Oct. 8-10 and feature Latino cultural events taking place throughout the weekend: MúsicArte de Fort Worth - Fiesta in Sundance Square Friday and Saturday, Fiesta de los Frogs at the TCU game on Saturday and Celebración de los Mayas at the Kimbell Art Museum on Sunday.
