NOTES ON A SCORECARDThe students are back as classes began Monday. There's a definite buzz on campus and it's a great time to be a Horned Frog! Make sure to drop by Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium on Friday at 7 p.m. as we host the USC Trojans. We're also home Sunday at 1 p.m. versus Sam Houston State.
CONFERENCE REALIGNMENT
There has been a lot of speculation and rumors regarding our conference over the last week. TCU is a proud member of the Mountain West Conference. Commissioner Craig Thompson is to be commended for acting swiftly and boldly with the addition of Fresno State and Nevada. Those two institutions strengthen our league and also provide two quality baseball programs.
TICKETS ANYONE?
Our record-breaking year for season-ticket sales continues. We're now at 17,500 and counting, shattering our previous record number of 14,490 in 2007. This is a watershed moment for the excitement around our program. All football season tickets are ready and have been mailed or are currently available at will call depending on your choice of delivery. If you have not received your season tickets, please contact the ticket office at 817-257-FROG (3764) or tickets@tcu.edu.
COWBOYS CLASSIC
Tickets remain for the Cowboys Classic - our Sept. 4 season opener with No. 22 Oregon State. Even though it's not officially a home game for us, we need every Frog there to provide us that great home-field advantage we've enjoyed at Amon G. Carter Stadium. Tickets are available through the Cowboys or Ticketmaster. There are also several different avenues you can pursue on-line for the best possible value.
TOWN HALL MEETINGS
On the heels of last week's announcement regarding the renovation of Amon G. Carter Stadium, we are continuing to formulate our plan for seat and parking reallocation. We will be holding a series of Town Hall Meetings Oct. 12-14 to discuss our strategy and to hear from you. We'll keep you posted on the site of the meetings. They will either be in the Meyer-Martin Athletic Complex or the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. If you are interested in attending these meetings, please contact us at 817-257-5658 or send your name and contact information in an e-mail to stadium@tcu.edu. Please put "Stadium Town Hall Meeting" in the subject line.
WE'RE NO. 6
The Horned Frogs are sixth in the Associated Press Preseason Top 25 poll. It's the highest preseason ranking in our history. It's a great statement to the respect level TCU has earned with the national media under head coach Gary Patterson.
NIKE WATCH
We are honored to again be one of just 10 schools selected by Nike to wear a uniquely designed uniform for at least one game this season. The date of the game and look of the uniform will be unveiled in a special ceremony Sept. 1 in New York City.
FROGS HIT THE SPANISH AIRWAVES
Thanks to a new relationship with Univision Radio AM 1270, we will become the first collegiate athletics program in the Metroplex to have a Spanish radio broadcast for football games. This partnership enhances our marketing efforts in the Hispanic community and is a great tie in to our annual Fiesta de los Frogs promotion (Oct. 9 versus Wyoming).
MEET THE FROGS
Our annual Meet The Frogs will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Amon G. Carter Stadium. During our Mock Scrimmage, we'll have plenty of activities for families, including inflatable games for kids, face painters and a food and beverage tent courtesy of Boomerjacks. Free team posters and trading cards will be available. Following the Mock Scrimmage, at approximately 12 noon, the Horned Frog players will hold an on-field clinic for the kids. At 1 p.m., we'll go inside to the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum for autographs with players, coaches, cheerleaders and Showgirls. We will have free ice cream and water during the autograph session.
DON'T FORGET THE BOOKS
We posted a departmental cumulative 3.10 grade-point average for the summer. Our Academic-Athletic Services Office just finished with both the International student orientation and the 10th and final freshman orientation of the summer.
