LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- TCU All-America return specialist and wide receiver Jeremy Kerley is included on the watch list for the Paul Hornung Award.
Created by the Louisville Sports Commission, the Paul Hornung Award is designed to recognize versatile, high-level performers in major college football and help preserve the legacy of one of Kentucky's best-known athletes.
Kerley returned two punts for touchdowns last season. His 563 punt return yards broke Davey O'Brien's single-season TCU record from 1937.
The senior from Hutto, Texas, was the Mountain West Conference Special Teams Player of the Year. He was one of only two players (Javier Arenas, Alabama) in the nation to rank in the top seven in punt returns (14.4 yards) and the top 22 in kickoff returns (26.6 yards). He led the MWC in both categories as well as all-purpose yards (1,624).
Kerley also topped TCU with 44 receptions, more than doubling the 20 he had from his first two seasons combined.
Hornung is one of the legends of college and pro football. He won the 1956 Heisman Trophy at Notre Dame and was the No. 1 pick in the 1957 NFL Draft. He was a member of four NFL championship teams as an all-pro halfback for the Green Bay Packers.
Former Packers coach Vince Lombardi called Hornung, "The most versatile man ever to play the game."
Hornung is a member of the College and Pro Football Halls of Fame and the Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame. He resides in his hometown of Louisville.
