FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU senior Ashley Aikman recently sat down with GoFrogs.com to share her thoughts with the TCU fans on the 2009-10 equestrian season and much more.
Aikman, a native of Mission, Texas, wrapped up a successful junior season with a 9-6-1 record in Horsemanship. Over the course of the season, she collected three MVP accolades.
At the National Championships in Waco, Aikman tallied one of three TCU points in Horsemanship with a 149-145.5 victory over Oklahoma State's Mamie Tomlin. She also helped the Western team to a fifth place finish at the national meet.
What have you been doing this summer?
I am currently taking summer school classes including Biology II, Chemistry II, and Physics II. I also competed at the Texas Classic Horse Show during the beginning of summer.
How do you think the 2009-10 Equestrian season went?
I think we did amazing as a whole. For both the English and Western teams to compete that well at nationals, it was something that has never happened before.
How do you feel the 2010-11 Equestrian season is shaping up?
I believe that this season will be very successful. We have some great riders that are returning and amazing talent that will be joining the team this year.
What do you like most about Equestrian?
I just love going out and riding my horse and having that mental release. The team makes me enjoy riding horses even more, since I can share this experience with my best friends.
If you could choose another sport what would you play?
I would run cross country. I never used to like running, but ever since I came to college I have really enjoyed running in 5K and 10K competitions.
What is your favorite thing about TCU?
I love the school spirit. Everyone is so proud to wear purple, current students and alums alike.
If you were stranded on an island what two things would you need?
I would need a toothbrush and toothpaste.
What is your favorite movie?
My favorite movie is The Guardian. I could watch that movie a million times.
If you could go anywhere in the world where would it be and why?
I would go to Italy even though I have already been there, but it was only for a week. If I ever get the chance, I would want to live there for a year. That place is gorgeous.
Who is your favorite singer or what song are you listening to right now?
My favorite song right now is Miranda Lambert's The House That Built Me.
