AUSTIN, Texas - The following are quotes from head coach Darryl Anderson and some of the Horned Frogs top-performers at the 2010 NCAA West Preliminary Round on Saturday.Darryl Anderson
"Outside of the men's 4x100 dropping the baton, we had an outstanding last two days in Austin. Obviously, for the guys on the 4x100, it hurts. I feel bad for them because they were easily winning the race, but in a high-risk event like that those things happen. I am so proud of all of those relay guys. They were able to move on and do great things today when they could've just given up. Mychal Dungey and Charles Silmon came back and ran great in the 200. I thought the men's 4x400 was exceptional tonight. They had a big time seasonal-best and were able to get themselves to Eugene when they weren't even expected to get to the next round. That is the character of this team though. They step up for each other and do the things that we need for them to do to be special. All-in-all, we had an exceptional weekend."
"Now we just go back and regroup. We just have to get ready for Eugene in two weeks and make it happen. All-in-all, I am very pleased with how this week went."
Neidra Covington
"I came out here to win the preliminary round and qualify for the NCAA Championships in Eugene and I was able to do that. I'm very excited that I have the opportunity to compete in both the long and triple jump in two weeks."
Mychal Dungey
"It felt really good making it through in the 200. I am disappointed that we weren't able to get our 4x100 through though, but that happens sometimes."
"I knew the 4x400 was going to be tough, but all week we wanted to qualify for Dell and Clemore. I am really happy that we were able to get them to nationals. We have experienced so much together and ran well tonight."
Charles Silmon
"It feels really good to qualify in both the 100 and 200 meters. At the beginning of the 200, I didn't feel very good, but I was able to get to Eugene, which is great."
"I am kind of sad that our 4x100 wasn't able to make it because we had a good chance to win a title this year. We'll come back and do much better next year though."
"I used the 4x100 as motivation in the 200. I now just need to get ready for nationals."
Larissa Matthews
"This feels really good to be able to go the next round, especially as a freshman. I know I am going to Eugene, but I don't think it will hit me yet until next week."
Tommy Killen
"This feels pretty good to make it. I didn't exactly do it how I wanted too, but the important thing is that I'm going. I am really motivated and am going to try and hit some bigger throws."
Dell Guy
"This feels really good. We had a plan to come in here and make it into the NCAA meet and we were able to do that. We ran our hearts out and I am so proud of the 4x400. We are heading to Eugene."
Clemore Henry
"This feels great. After how the 400 meters went, Dell and I wanted to put everything we had into this relay. We put it out there in the beginning and the rest of the guys were able to pull through for us. They told us they were going to get us to nationals and were able to do that, which is awesome."
