FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU equestrian coach Gary Reynolds announced the additions of Johanna Bishop-Viscarra and Laura Bish to the equestrian program on Monday.
Bishop-Viscarra comes to TCU following a standout career at Cathedral Catholic High School in San Diego, Calif. Bishop-Viscarra, who is a two-time Reserve Grand Circuit High Point Champion of the HITS Arizona Winter Circuit, won the 2008 Marshall and Sterling Children Hunter Classic, while also competing in the CPHA Foundation Finals. In 2009, she won the Central Equine medal at the Thermal Winter Circuit and recently qualified for the 2010 CPHA Foundation Medal Finals. Bishop-Viscarra, who was ranked in the top 15 of the CPHA Junior Medal Finals and top 12 of the CPHA Foundation Finals, finished in the top 10 at the 2009 West Coast Junior Hunter Finals. Finally, Bishop-Viscarra will don the Purple and White next fall after qualifying and competing at the Los Angeles National Horse Show. She also finished in the top 15 at the WCE Medal Finals.
"Johanna will be a great addition to our team," said assistant coach Kindel Huffman. "She has shown across the country and ridden many different horses."
Bish, who hails from Houston, is a two-time WPCSA National Champion. Bish received the 2008 United States Equestrian Federation Horse of the Year honor, while also earning championship accolades in the United States Dressage Federation Regional. She also placed first overall at the United States Dressage Federation Dressage Seat Medal Finals.
"Laura will bring a lot of experience to our team, especially on the flat," said Huffman. "She is one of the only girls we have signed with dressage show experience, which is really good. "
The nationally ranked TCU equestrian squad made program history at nationals last month, wrapping up competition in fourth-place in the final team standings at the 2010 Varsity Equestrian National Championships. The fourth-place finish is the highest placing for a Horned Frog squad at nationals.
