ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The following are quotes from head coach Darryl Anderson and some of the Horned Frogs top-performers at the Mountain West Conference Outdoor Championships on Saturday.Darryl Anderson
"I thought our women had a really good meet. We are a very young team and only have one senior in Neidra Covington, who did a very good job of leading this team this week. I was quite pleased with how our women performed this week. We are moving forward with the women and this was a good step heading into the West Regional in two weeks."
"On the men's side, I am disappointed with our performance today. We made some mistakes and had some individuals not run up to our expectations, but at the end of the day, we had a lot of positives as well. Charles Silmon was outstanding today and really did some nice things for us on the track. Overall, we had a lot of good performances on the men's side, we now just need to get ourselves mentally prepared for the West Regional."
"Rose Tanui had an exceptional meet for us in winning both the 5,000 and 10,000 meters this weekend."
Larissa Matthews
"This feels really good, especially since I am a freshman. I didn't really think I could do it at first, but coach Anderson was really motivating me to go do it, so I was able to pull through and get the win. This feels good, but I now need to get ready for the West Regional."
Jordan Pitts
"This feels pretty good, but my main concern was working on my technique today, so I can get out of the regional and go to nationals."
Dell Guy
"This feels great to win. I have had a lot of time to think about all the close losses I have had throughout my career, so to be able to come out today and put my best race on the table and win was great. I ran a personal-best and am really happy that I was able to end my Mountain West career with a win."
Kristal Juarez
"This feels wonderful. I feel like God was guiding me through the race today. I haven't really been running far in practice, so I think today will really help me get to the next level in two weeks."
Neidra Covington
"This feels really great to win my senior year. It was basically time for me to win it. I am happy that I was able to break my own school record, but I wanted to continue to break it today and didn't quite do that."
Charles Silmon
"I want to thank God for letting me do this today. I just need to continue to move up and try and win the NCAA Championship in the 100. I thought I was going to catch Mychal Dungey in the 200 meters, but I guess I wasn't strong enough. I had a good race though and just need to continue to work."
Mychal Dungey
"This feels good to win my second-straight title. I thought we all ran well today. Overall, we wanted to win the team-title, but weren't able to get that done."
"I am proud of Charles Silmon today. He got out exceptionally well and just relaxed in the 200 meters. He usually leans over and tightens up, but he didn't do that today and really ran well."
