FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU soccer program and Horned Frog head coach Dan Abdalla announced its fall 2010 schedule on Monday. The slate features 11 home matches and contests with 14 teams that played in postseason competition, including six NCAA Tournament teams."I'm excited for our team as they have worked extremely hard this past spring preparing for such a great schedule. We have three conference champions and a team that recently won the NCAA Championship all coming to Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium, which is going to create a great environment, especially with the opening of the Jane Justin Fieldhouse," said Abdalla.
TCU's non-conference home slate is highlighted by matches against USC, Sam Houston State, Oklahoma State, Texas State and Houston Baptist, who all played in postseason play in 2009. The Purple and White will play a total of seven non-conference matches at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.
USC comes off a season in which they not only made the NCAA Tournament, but also finished the year ranked No. 24 in the final NSCAA poll. In 2007, the Trojans captured the NCAA Championship.
Oklahoma State is coming off back-to-back Big 12 Championships and finished the fall campaign receiving votes in the final NSCAA poll. The Cowgirls also advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for a second-consecutive season during the fall, defeating USC in the opening round before falling to Santa Clara in a shootout.
On the road, TCU will open the month of August with a road-match against 2009 Big 12 Tournament participant Texas Tech in Lubbock. The Horned Frogs will also play away matches against Northwestern State, Memphis, Ole Miss and Texas-San Antonio. Both Memphis and Ole Miss qualified for the 2009 NCAA Tournament last fall, while UTSA played in the Southland Tournament.
The Horned Frogs' conference schedule consists of four home matches and three road games. TCU will host UNLV, BYU, Utah and New Mexico. TCU's MWC road schedule includes games at San Diego State, Wyoming and Air Force. The Aztecs, who claimed the conference tournament championship in 2009, advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2009.
The Frogs will open their regular season on the road against Texas Tech on Friday, Aug. 20. Following its game against the Red Raiders, TCU will travel back to Fort Worth to take on Texas Southern on Sunday, Aug. 22, USC on Friday, Aug. 27, Sam Houston State on Sunday, Aug. 29 and Houston to open the month of September.
Following the four-match home stand, TCU will continue road action against Northwestern State on Sept. 5 in Natchitoches, La. The Frogs will then return home to face Oklahoma State on Sept. 12. The Purple and White will continue action the next week with consecutive away matches against NCAA Tournament teams Memphis and Ole Miss on Sept. 17 and Sept. 19, respectively.
Following an away match against UTSA on Sept. 24, TCU will closeout its home non-conference slate with a match against Texas State on Sept. 26 and a day contest versus Houston Baptist on Oct. 3.
