
Scherer Crowned National Champion at Junior Olympics

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Fresh off a team and individual national championship, freshman Sarah Scherer continued her impressive season at the National Junior Olympic Rifle Championships. She earned her second national championship this season in the Women's Junior Air Rifle event.
Scherer qualified for the finals in second place after firing 395 in both of the first two rounds. In the finals, Scherer locked up the national championship with a tally of 102.4 for a final score of 892.4, besting second-place finisher Abigail Stanec's final total of 891.2.
The match was phase one of two of the junior team selection for the World Shooting Championships. Part two will take place at Fort Benning in June at the USA Shooting National Championships. Scherer has already qualified for the women's open team for the World Championships.
Sarah Beard also qualified for the final with scores 390 and 394. She shot a 101.5 in the final and finished eighth. Caitlin Morrissey finished 12th after firing a 395 and 386.
