
Soccer Honors 2009 Season On Sunday

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU women's soccer program held its second annual awards banquet on Sunday to honor a successful 2009 campaign.
TCU climbed as high as No. 26 in the nation and No. 4 in the region during the year, while placing Jackie Torda on the all-conference squad. The Horned Frogs also qualified for the Mountain West Conference Tournament for a third-consecutive season.
On Sunday, Torda, a Soccer News Net Player of the Year finalist, took home two honors as she was named the Offensive MVP, while also receiving the Purple Heart award along with fellow junior Kelsey Walters, who earned the honor for a second-straight season. Walters, an Oklahoma City native, also collected Defensive MVP accolades on Sunday night.
Midfielder Kristen Halverson also piled up the honors as she was awarded the Citius, Altius, Forti award, as well as the Addy award, which is given out to the player that best demonstrates commitment, determination, character, heart and several other intangibles throughout the season.
Freshman Leigha Leonard garnered the Newcomer of the Year award on Sunday. Finally, Chelsea Cody, Cheryl Martin and Walters were honored with the Academic award. All three were presented the award by Chris Uchacz, director of athletic academic services.
