FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU women's tennis team will open up the Mountain West Conference schedule this weekend, hosting Air Force, Wyoming and Colorado State at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center, April 2-4. The Horned Frogs will hit the court at 10 a.m. against the Falcons Friday, followed by the Cowgirls and Rams on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
TCU welcomes MWC action after splitting with Wichita State and No. 3 Notre Dame last weekend. Senior Nina Munch-Soegaard picked up a big win over No. 34 Lutfiana Budiharto from Wichita State Friday to jump up to No. 63 in the latest Campbell's/ITA national rankings. The Frogs will honor the lone senior on Saturday against Wyoming, acknowledging her four years of play for the Purple and White.
Since joining the Mountain West Conference in 2005-06, TCU has compiled a 39-4 record against league opponents while garnering three regular season titles (2006, '07, '08) and a pair of tournament trophies (2006, '09). Head coach Jefferson Hammond has earned the league's Coach of the Year honor in each of the last two seasons.
The Falcons come into the weekend with a 13-5 overall record. USAFA is looking to snap a current three-match losing streak after dropping matches to Samford, Hawaii and Hawaii-Pacific. Five players on the Air Force roster enter MWC play with double digit win totals this spring.
Wyoming (8-4, 0-0 MWC) is led by senior Sarah Summerfield, who boasts a 9-3 record. Junior transfer Kim van Ginkel continues to impress after an 11-4 record during the fall, sporting a 9-2 ledger this spring. Junior Rebecca Berger and freshman Alexandra Kovacs have enjoyed the most success in doubles, showing off a 7-3 mark after a 6-1 record in fall tournaments.
Colorado State (5-7, 0-0 MWC) has won two of its last three matches. The Rams haven't taken the court since dropping a 6-1 decision at Houston on March 18. Junior transfer Melissa Holzinger has won three-straight matches from the No. 6 position, owning the top singles record on the CSU squad at 8-2. The Rams have had success at the bottom half of their lineup, going 19-15 overall this spring, while the top three spots have only managed to go 13-23.
