
Scherer Selected To World Championship Team

FORT WORTH, Texas - Four members of the TCU rifle team took part in the Spring Airgun Championships held at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. Freshman Sarah Scherer was one of six shooters to be named to the World Championship team that will represent the U.S. this August at the 50th ISSF World Championships in Munich, Germany.
Scherer (Fort Worth, Texas) qualified in third place with 1796.4 points, behind two-time Olympian Emily Caruso (Fairfield, Conn.), who lead the way in Women's Air Rifle, qualifying for a spot with 1800.4 total points. Jamie Beyerle (Lebanon, Pa.), a 2008 Olympian, took the second spot with an overall score of 1798.8 points.
On day one of the competition, Scherer shot a 397 to finish second in the women's and first in the junior women competition. Caitlin Morrissey fired a 391 to place second in the junior women competition, including a 104.0 in the finals. Erin Lorenzen fired a 394 to finish sixth in the women's competition and Sarah Beard shot a 386 to finish ninth in the junior women competition, just missing the top 8 final.
On day two of the competition, Beard won the Junior Championship, shooting a 396. Scherer placed third in Juniors and Morrissey seventh in Juniors.
In the open women's competition on the second day, Beard finished third overall. Lorenzen also made the final top eight after shooting a 396.
The world championship team selection will continue through June with team selections for the women's smallbore team as well as the junior women's team for air rifle and smallbore.
