FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU women's rifle team is one of eight teams to qualify for the NCAA Championships, an event that they will host for the second straight year. The championships are slated to begin Friday and continue through Saturday. The Frogs are making their fourth straight appearance in the tournament.
TCU has had a tremendous amount of success in the National Championships, notching two fifth-place finishes (2007 and 2009) and a third place finish in 2008. The five athletes who will be representing the Horned Frogs this weekend will be seniors Erin Lorenzen and Simone Riford, along with a trio of freshmen, Sarah Beard, Caitlin Morrissey and Sarah Scherer.
The smallbore championship will be held in the TCU Rifle Range on Friday. The competition shifts to Daniel-Meyer Coliseum on Saturday for the air rifle competition.
The participating field of eight includes Alaska-Fairbanks, West Virginia, Kentucky, Army, Navy, Murray State and Nebraska. Ohio State, Columbus State, Jacksonville State, Mississippi and Akron will send individual participants to the competition.
Tickets are available for purchase. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for youths ages 3-17 and participating universities students.
