ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The following are quotes from head coach Darryl Anderson and some of the Flyin' Frogs top-performers at the Mountain West Conference Indoor Championships on Friday.Darryl Anderson
"I thought we had a good meet today. On the women's side, I thought they really competed well. This is the first meet this year that I have been able to walk away and think that we gave the maximum effort. The key for us is that we go back tonight and get some sleep and see what we can come back with tomorrow. We are in a good position to be in the top two tomorrow, which would be a good way to close out the conference portion of our season."
"On the men's side, I thought we did really well today. We are sitting with 21 points, which is exceptional for us after the first full day of competition. We had a really good meet on the men's side today and had a lot of people qualify. The only negative I would have with the men is that we false started in the 60 and 200 meters. Those things can't happen, but we are going to make some adjustments and make sure that doesn't happen from now on. All-in-all, our men are in a great position to do some exceptional things tomorrow."
"Rose Tanui was exceptional today. She was the first student-athlete in TCU history to ever win the 5,000 meters in the Mountain West, which is big for our program. We are really pleased with that."
"Festus Kigen winning the 5,000 meters was outstanding today. He was huge today. Being able to win both the men's and women's 5,000 meters was a great way to open the day. It was huge for us."
"Both Whitney and Neidra really competed well for us today. They both had seasonal-bests and did a very good job."
"I think we set ourselves up very well for tomorrow. Everyone that we thought would get through, did so for the most part, so we will come back tomorrow and finish this thing out. We are sitting in a very good position on both sides as we head into the final day."
Rose Tanui
"The first mile was okay, but the second mile I could tell that my fitness level has really improved. I am really excited to come out and win a conference championship. "
Jordan Pitts
"I think today went fairly well for me. I am really excited to head into the finals. Today went better then my previous races, which is good."
Teneshia Peart
"I thought I did really well in the 200, but I have to do a better job in the 60 meters for sure. Overall, I am happy with my 200-meter time because that's my fastest time ever on a banked track."
Mychal Dungey
"I think overall we are doing very well. We started off with a boom with Festus in the 5,000. We had some minor mistakes, but tomorrow we just have to come back and do our best. Individually, I am not where I want to be in the 200, but I just have to come back and do better."
Dell Guy
"Overall, I thought I had a good day today going into tomorrow. I had the fastest qualifying time in the 400, which is always a plus. I plan on going into tomorrow and winning. I came back in the 200 and was a little tired, but I got done what I needed to get done. We just need to come back tomorrow and win."
Festus Kigen
"It feels great to win a conference championship. I felt good out there today. I was able to have something left to win the race. The DMR went really well. I am really happy about it. We came in second and I am pleased with our performance."
Whitney Gipson
"I am glad that I finally got a provisional in the long jump. We did some good things today, but I thought I could of jumped farther on that last jump."
