COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - TCU's Katariina Tuohimaa has been named Co-Women's Tennis Players of the Week, alongside Wyoming's Sarah Summerfield, the league announced Wednesday. The honor is the second of Tuohimaa's career.
A product of Helsinki, Finland, Tuohimaa picked up the highest-ranked win of her career for the second time this season, taking down No. 16 Mallory Burdette (5-7, 7-6 [4], 10-5) of 14th-ranked Stanford. Playing at the No. 3 singles position, Tuohimaa battled back to record the victory over the Cardinal's highest-ranked player in a 6-1 loss for the No. 24 Horned Frogs. In doubles, the junior paired with Maria Babanova to take on Stanford's Burdette/Stacey Tan from the No. 2 position, eventually falling to the duo, 8-2.
TCU will return to the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center on Feb. 17 to host SMU in a cross-town night match. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
