TCU Finishes Day One at Chesapeake Pro-Am

OKLAHOMA CITY - TCU's men's and women's swimming team finished their first day of competition at the Chesapeake Elite Pro-Am Meet inside the Oklahoma City Community College Aquatic Center.
TCU's 400-medley relay teams were the top performers on the night for the Horned Frogs. The men's team notched a second- and fourth-place finish in the event. The quartet of Nelson Head, Andy Garcia-Montes, Friedrich Grott and Rourke Barrett was second with a 3:26.13.
Jeff Gettel, Edgar Peyro, Ryker Saunders and Dan Bodin put together a 3:27.69 that was good for fourth-place.
The women's team of Zrinka Korac, Michelle Fleming, Sabine Rasch and Parris Schoppa took second-place honors with a 3:54.52.
Jennifer Oster, Nikki Pappas, Amanda Vincent and Maria Paula Alvarez placed 10th in the same event with a 4:01.49.
Senior Garcia-Montes enjoyed success at the event for the second-straight year, notching a 1:51.90 in the 200-individual medley. His time was good for third place in the finals. The Miami, Fla., native also finished third in the 200-breaststroke with a time of 2:04.34.
Freshman Fleming continued her impressive run, clocking a 2:24.69 in the 200-breaststroke. She touched the wall sixth in the finals, building on her performance at the U.S. Short Course Nationals when she notched the third-fastest time in the event all-time at TCU.
The women's team turned in two top-eight performances in the 50-freestyle when sophomores Rasch and Parris finished fourth and seventh, respectively. Rasch clocked a 23.50, while Schoppa's 23.75 was a season-best.
In the men's 50-freestyle, TCU got a 12th-place finish from Barrett, who clocked a season-best 21.22. Devin Price placed 21st in 21.39, also a season best.
Freshman Michael Franz finished eighth in the 500-freestyle with a time of 4:38.46.
