
Rifle Continues Rolling; Tops Nebraska

FORT WORTH, Texas - Another dominating performance by the TCU Rifle team scored them a huge victory over Nebraska, 4,690-4,602, Sunday at the TCU Rifle Range. The Horned Frogs fired the highest aggregate score in the NCAA this year and Sarah Beard set the school record in smallbore after firing a 589.
"I am very proud of the team and how they are always striving to perform at their best," raved head coach Karen Monez. "The new team aggregate set at today's match shows just how focused and determined they are to achieve their goals. The team continues to compete like the champions that they are."
Included with her school-record smallbore mark, Beard also fired a 591 to give her a career-high 1180 aggregate score. Mattie Brogdon continued her solid weekend, setting career-highs in smallbore (585) and aggregate (1173).
The Frogs dominated smallbore, handing the Cornhuskers a 2,327-2,268 defeat. TCU posted the top five scores in the event. Along with the solid scores posted by Beard and Brogdon, Sarah Scherer took home third place honors with a tally of 577. Catherine Green and Caitlin Morrissey finished tied for fourth with a score of 576.
More outstanding performances gave the Frogs a victory in air rifle, 2,363-2,334. Morrissey and Scherer tied for second after shooting a 592. Beard came in fourth after firing a 591. Brogdon rounded out the top five with a score of 588 and Green finished sixth after shooting a 585.
The rifle team remains undefeated on the season (5-0) and has not lost in their last 14 matches. TCU hits the road next weekend for a meeting with The Citadel on Saturday.
