COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Sixteen TCU football players have been named All-Mountain West Conference with quarterback Andy Dalton, linebacker Tank Carder and return specialist Jeremy Kerley receiving Player of the Year accolades.
Dalton is just the second player (Bradlee Van Pelt, quarterback, Colorado State, 2002-03) in league history to be a two-time MWC Offensive Player of the Year. He is also the first Horned Frog to be a back-to-back conference offensive player of the year since LaDainian Tomlinson (1999-00).
Carder is the third straight Horned Frog to be named the MWC Defensive Player of the Year. Former TCU All-America defensive end Jerry Hughes was the recipient the last two years.
Kerley is the second player (Louie Sakoda, placekicker/punter, Utah, 2006-08) in MWC history to earn Special Teams Player of the Year accolades on multiple occasions. He was also last year's recipient.
Dalton, Carder and Kerley were also the Preseason MWC Players of the Year in their respective categories.
The Horned Frogs topped the MWC with nine first-team selections, matching a league record shared by last year's TCU squad and the 2000 Colorado State Rams.
Representing TCU on the first-team offense are Dalton, offensive tackle Marcus Cannon, center Jake Kirkpatrick and tailback Ed Wesley.
Dalton, Cannon and Kerley were also first-team All-MWC picks last season.
Wesley, the first Horned Frog to top 1,000 yards in rushing (1,065) since 2003, is just the third sophomore in MWC history to be a first-team pick at running back.
First-team defensive selections are Carder, linebacker Tanner Brock, defensive end Wayne Daniels and safety Tejay Johnson.
Dalton and Daniels were the league's only unanimous first-team picks.
As a return specialist, Kerley is just the seventh player in MWC history to be a three-time first-team All-MWC selection.
TCU has had the first-team All-MWC return specialist all six seasons it has been in the league.
Kerley was also a second-team selection at wide receiver.
TCU had four second-team honorees on defense in defensive tackle Cory Grant, safety Colin Jones, defensive end Stansly Maponga and cornerback Jason Teague.
TCU's honorable-mention picks were tight end Evan Frosch, defensive tackle D.J. Yendrey and wide receiver Jimmy Young.
Nine of TCU's 11 defensive starters received All-MWC recognition.
TCU led the league in all-conference selections (17) for the fifth time in its six seasons of MWC play.
