NOTES ON A SCORECARDThis week is what you look for in intercollegiate athletics. The nation's eyes are on TCU as our football program heads to Salt Lake City to face an outstanding Utah squad in a battle of top-five ranked teams.
IT'S A WHITE OUT
With Utah having a "Black Out" for Saturday's football game, we received some outstanding suggestions from our fans to counter with a "White Out" so our student-athletes, as well as those watching on TV, would be able to see us amidst all the Utes in the stands. We very much appreciate our good friends at ISP Sports and Railhead Smokehouse making this possible by teaming up to provide approximately 1,000 shirts. They will be distributed during the pre-game tailgate from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at the corner of 500 South and 1580 E. Guardsman Way, less than a block from Rice-Eccles Stadium. Please make sure you wear your shirt at the game.
SENDING THE FROGS OFF IN STYLE
We hope you'll be able to join our band and spirit groups on Friday at 11:30 a.m. at Gate 1 of Amon G. Carter Stadium to wish our football team good luck and give them a nice send-off as they depart campus for Salt Lake City. With it being Go Purple Friday, we will have sponsor coupons available for those in purple.
GAMEDAY
A crew from ESPN was on campus Tuesday filming segments to use during Saturday's College GameDay. It's an absolute honor and tribute to our football program that GameDay will be taking place at a TCU game for the third time in two seasons. We hope you caught the great exposure we received during last week's show when Chris Fowler sported a Gary Patterson mask and attire for a Halloween skit featuring the nation's top coaches and teams. It was very well done, including Chris with the "double hitch" of the pants.
NATIONAL MEDIA
It's exciting to have our football program, Gary Patterson and student-athletes in the national spotlight. In addition to the local folks, the throng of media that have either already done interviews or are scheduled to later this week include ESPN, ESPN.com, USA Today, SI.com, the Scott Van Pelt Show, the Dan Patrick Show and Jim Rome Show.
AMON'S LAST STAND
Make sure to mark your calendar for next Saturday, Nov. 13, when we host San Diego State at 3 p.m. in the final game at our 80-year-old home. We will also be saying goodbye to an outstanding 27-member senior class. A complimentary historical guide chronicling Amon G. Carter Stadium's rich history will be available for the first 10,000 fans in attendance. The publication features a piece written by Dan Jenkins. All our past football lettermen will take part in a special ceremony. We'll also have a commemorative cup available for purchase and a post-game fireworks show.
HITTING THE BOOKS
Our academic-athletic services office is planning ahead and knee deep in advisement for the Spring 2011 semester. The staff is holding meetings all day, every 30 minutes, with our student-athletes. In addition to the unprecedented success we've had across the board on the playing fields over the last year, we've also recorded our highest grade-point averages since tracking began in 1998.
DINNER AT THE DMC
Our men's basketball program put on an outstanding Dinner at the DMC event last week with a very nice turnout. The season opener is just over a week away as we have a Friday, Nov. 12, home doubleheader. The women, ranked 23rd in the preseason Associated Press poll, host Houston Baptist at 5:30 p.m., while the men face Jackson State at 8 p.m.
WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!
Congratulations to Angie Ravaioli-Larkin and our women's golf program for winning the team championship with Brooke Beeler capturing the individual title at The Alamo Invitational in San Antonio earlier this week. In the second round, we shot a school record 7-under-par 281.
CHRISTMAS SHOPPING
Don't forget that our new on-line store (http://shop.gofrogs.com) has some great Christmas gift ideas. We've had an incredible surge in activity seen the store was launched a few months ago.
KEEP IN TOUCH
Please let us know if you ever have any questions or concerns regarding our program. This is also your program and we value your feedback.
Go Frogs!
