FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU senior Festus Kigen and sophomore Agnes Kemboi were named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's 2010 South Central All-Region team Monday.
Kigen became the first male in TCU history to win a regional title, breaking the tape with the time of 30:11.1. He also became the third Frog overall to win a regional crown, joining Mary Kinyanjui and Glady's Keitany.
The victory marked the third top-10 finish at a regional meet for Kigen in his four-year career at TCU, punching his ticket for his third and final appearance at the NCAA Cross Country Championships on Nov. 22 in Terre Haute, Ind. The honor is the third all-region team honor for Kigen.
Kemboi paced the Frogs' women and recorded new personal-best time, clocking in at 21:20.6 to finish in 25th place out of 125 participants. Her time also served as TCU's best clocking in a 6k event this season. The all-region nod is the first for Kemboi.
TCU was one of five programs in the Mountain West Conference have a member on both all-region teams, including Air Force, BYU, Colorado State and New Mexico.
