
Carpenter Named Cardinals Position Player of the Year

FORT WORTH, Texas - Former TCU baseball player Matt Carpenter has been named the St. Louis Cardinals Minor League Position Player of the Year. Carpenter was a 14th round pick by the Cardinals in 2009. He spent the majority of the 2010 season with Double A Springfield.
Carpenter opened up his first full professional season at High-A Palm Beach before earning a promotion to Springfield where he was the everyday third baseman. He played in 28 contests with Palm Beach before playing 77 games with Springfield for a total of 105 games played. He is the Cardinals first player drafted in 2009 to reach the Double A level.
For the entire season, Carpenter batted .309 with 13 home runs and 69 RBIs. As a member of the Springfield Cardinals, he finished fourth in the Texas League with a .316 batting average, third with a .412 on-base percentage and fifth in runs scored with 75. He was a two-time Texas League Player of the Week and was a member of the North Squad for the Texas League All-Star game.
He totaled 153 base hits and 93 runs scored between Palm Beach and Springfield. Both totals led all Cardinals minor leaguers.
