No. 3 TCU vs. San Diego State
Nov. 13, 2010
Attendance: 45,694
Final: No. 3 TCU 40, San Diego State 35
TCU Head Coach Gary Patterson
On his team's performance:
"Bottom line, we found a way to win. You've got to give San Diego State a lot of credit and now we move on. That's all we've got control over."
On the game:
"San Diego State did a good job in the fourth quarter. Our kids fought back after trying to mess the whole thing up to start the ballgame. You've got to give them a lot of credit. They were a 7-2 team coming in here and they made it a ballgame at the end."
On the play of RBs Matthew Tucker and Waymon James:
"They've both been playing all year. Tucker had a great game. They both went over 100 yards. We did what we needed to do."
On playing after an emotional game at Utah:
"A year ago, we had a similar ballgame after Utah because of the emotional highs of that game. We started off the game today about the same way. It wasn't talked about it and it wasn't addressed."
On playing with the thoughts of Coach Eddie Williamson:
"We talked about it at halftime. I told them that he was OK. We're a close group. You've got to go play."
TCU Safety Tejay Johnson
On being down early:
"Everybody was surprised. We came out slow; they got up on us quickly. We picked it up at that point. They are a great team, they only had one loss in conference coming into today. Their skill players are really good, and we are fortunate to get out of this with a win."
On if they had to escape with a win:
"When you look at the game, and think about the way we played, I felt like we didn't play to the best of our ability. Coming into the game, we talked about winning by one point. And we just have to win, that's all that matters."
TCU Center Jake Kirkpatrick
On the win today:
"We aren't too pleased with the way we played. We have a lot of guys fighting through injuries, but we are 11-0, and not many people can say that."
On being down 14-0 early in the game:
"It's not something we are used to, but it's just another challenge. When you are on top, each team gives you their best shot. Once we got down, we knew we had to dig ourselves out of that hole, and we did that in the second quarter."
TCU Wide Receiver Bart Johnson
On starting the game out flat:
"We started out a little flat, and weren't playing our football. But we made a comeback, played well, we just didn't finish the game like we need to."
On the memories he created in Amon G. Carter Stadium:
"It is unbelievable. You come in as true freshman, you live together, work out together, work out over the summer together, wake up at 6:30 in the morning together, you lose together, you sweat together. The emotions that were going through my mind when we were out on the field, it was unbelievable. This senior year has been special, for sure."
San Diego State Head Coach Brady Hoke
Statement about the game:
"We have to play four quarters in the game. As a team and coaches, we took the second quarter off. You cannot win big football games like that. We could not have started off any better, but like in life, in football you have to finish."
On the play of his team:
"Our players have played hard all year, they have done it before. I like the way the team acts together and the way they treat each other. They show a lot of fight and I like that part of it but I do not like the inconsistencies of the second half."
On the fast start and the lead:
"We have to keep our poise better, keep fighting and keep playing the game. They are a good football team with big weapons. They have a quarterback back there that is as good of a player as anybody and he is going to make some throws. They could not run the ball at all in the first quarter and the second they could so we have to do a better job of playing."
