FORT WORTH, Texas - A pair of TCU Horned Frogs joined a prestigious club on Thursday, but the team came up short in a 3-1 (21-25, 25-23, 18-25, 16-25) loss to Wyoming. Christy Hudson and Irene Hester became the eighth and ninth players, respectively, in school history to join the 1,000 kill club. Hester tallied 16 kills and now has 1,002 in her career, while Hudson tallied 10 to give her 1,006 for her career.Three Frogs tallied double-doubles in the match. Hudson added 10 digs to her stat line for her eighth double-double of the season. Meghan Horio notched double-double No. 14 with 38 assists and 10 digs. Jordan Raines collected 12 kills and 15 digs for her eighth double-double of the season. Irene Hester pitched in with five service aces to go along with eight digs and two blocks. Yvonne Igodan led the team with five blocks.
The Frogs found themselves staring at a 16-11 deficit in the first set. They began to chip away at the Cowgirl lead on kills by Irene Hester and a block by Raines and Igodan. Back-to-back kills from Hudson and Raines pulled the Frogs within one, 22-21, but a service error squelched the Frog rally. The Cowgirls turned the error into a 3-0 run to give themselves set point and Camille Coffman finished off the 25-21 set one win for Wyoming.
Again, Wyoming jumped out to the early lead, but this time the Frogs responded as they fought back to tie the match at a game apiece. The Cowgirls stormed out to a 15-10 lead, but a kill from Raines put the Frogs on the comeback trail. Kristen Hester dropped in two kills to pull the Frogs back within one, 17-16.
Wyoming had an answer as it pushed the lead back to three, 20-17. Irene Hester went on a tear as she blasted a cross-court kill to start a furious 4-0 run that would give the Frogs the lead, 21-20. After Wyoming tied the set at 21, a kill from Irene Hester put the Frogs back in front to stay. Raines gave the Frogs breathing room with two kills and finished off the 25-23 set two victory for the Frogs.
The third set was one of streaks as each team put together solid runs, but it was a 12-6 run by Wyoming that put it in control. Trailing 4-2, Irene Hester served up three straight aces to give the Frogs a 6-4 lead.
Wyoming kept the set close and eventually tied it at 11 on a Frog miscue. A block on the outside by the Cowgirls started a 5-1 run that would give them a 16-12 lead. A kill and an ace from Irene Hester along with a bad set error by the Cowgirls made it a one-point contest. The Cowgirls got a block on the outside that pushed the lead back to two and they never looked back en route to a 25-18 set three victory.
In the fourth set, Wyoming took control of the set early and never looked back as it took the 25-16 victory. Kills from Hudson and Irene Hester made it a 10-10 set, but a 4-0 run gave the Cowgirls a 14-10 lead that they would never relinquish on the way to the win.
TCU falls to 13-13 overall and 4-8 in league play. The Frogs will be back in action on Saturday afternoon as they host nationally-ranked Colorado State. Match time is set for 1 p.m. at the University Rec Center.
