
Rifle Scratches Out Victory At West Virginia

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU rifle team used a solid effort in air rifle to come away with the match victory at West Virginia Sunday afternoon. The Horned Frogs defeated the Mountaineers by a score of 4,675-4,663.
Sarah Scherer was the Frogs' top shooter on the afternoon, firing a 592 in air rifle and a 584 in smallbore. She was the lone participant to finish in the top three of both events.
West Virginia topped the Frogs in the smallbore portion of the match, shooting a 2,325 to TCU's 2,315. Scherer's third place finish was tops for the Frogs. Caitlin Morrissey finished fifth with a score of 579. Sarah Beard came in sixth after shooting a 577 and Mattie Brogdon fired a 575 to finish seventh. Rounding out the Frog shooters was Catherine Green who shot a 566.
The Frogs bore down in air rifle, making up their deficit with a solid score of 2,360. TCU boasted four of the top five scores in the event. Scherer and Brogdon tied for first with marks of 592. Brogdon's score sets a new career-high for the junior. Beard finished third after firing a 589. Morrissey rounded out the top five with a score of 587. Green contributed with a score of 581.
The Frogs are 2-0 in head-to-head match-ups this season. The Frogs will hit the road again next weekend when they travel to Murray State for a match on Saturday, Oct. 30.
