FORT WORTH - TCU's men's swimming and diving team opened the 2010-11 season with a 162-138 win over Air Force at the TCU URC Natatorium.
The Horned Frogs (1-0, 1-0 Mountain West Conference) extended their dual-winning streak to 10 wins, including eight-straight duals against MWC competition. Air Force drops to 3-1, 0-1 on the year.
"We are very happy to win," TCU coach Richard Sybesma said. "That is a much-improved and good Air Force team. It's a great start to our season and will help us for the future."
TCU senior Andy Garcia-Montes put the dual out of reach for the Frogs when he touched the wall in 1:52.50 in the 200-individual medley. His nine points gave the Frogs a 151-132 advantage with just one event remaining.
The Frogs won relays to open and close the meet. Laszlo Gyurko, Edgar Crespo, Edgar Peyro and Devin Price got things started for TCU with a win in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:30.95.
After Garcia-Montes's win iced the dual for the Frogs, Gyurko, Rourke Barrett, Peyro and Price put an exclamation point on it with a 3:05.07 for the win in the 400-freestyle relay.
Breaststroke specialist Crespo picked up wins in the 100- and 200-breast. The junior from Panama City, Panama, has yet to be beaten in the breaststroke during his TCU career.
Senior diver Kyle Callens was a winner in the 1-meter springboard as well as the 3-meter springboard.
Freshman Michael Franz notched a first-place finish in the 500-free and second-place finish in the 1000-free. The Carmichael, Calif., native's time of 9:29.74 in the 1000-free is the third-best time in school history.
Other TCU winners were Gyurko in the 100-free and Friedrich Grott in the 200-butterfly.
The Frogs return to action Oct. 29 at The Southwest Collegiate Plunge in Mansfield, Texas.
