
TCU Drops Close Meet to North Texas

FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU women's swimming and diving teams suffered a 155.5-144.5 defeat to North Texas at the University Rec Center Friday.
"We swam very well tonight," said TCU swimming and diving head coach Richard Sybesma. "We just lost a very tight meet to a much-improved North Texas team."
Senior diver Jennifer Ferguson turned in a stellar performance, as she won the one- and three-meter diving events. Ferguson scored 269.18 in six dives in the one-meter, while registering a scorecard of 317.03 to take the three-meter event. Senior Stephanie Futscher also picked up a win for TCU, taking the 200-fly with a time of 2:05.34. The Irving, Texas native now has five wins through the Frogs seven meets.
Newcomer Katie Scarsella registered her first collegiate win, pacing the field in the 100-free at 52.62. The Southlake, Texas product joined the TCU roster this month after signing with the Purple and White in the fall. Scarsella also earned runner-up accolades in the 50-free (24.61) and 200-free (1:53.43) to lead all Frogs. Junior Brittney Martinez helped keep TCU close, winning the 200-back at 2:05.68 to cut the Mean Green's lead to only five points.
TCU ended the evening on a high note, taking the top two spots in the 400-free relay, led by the quartet of Rachel Nash, Kaitlyn Vann, Parris Schoppa and Ashley Bolin tapped the wall at 3:32.29.
Other top performances came from sophomores Jennifer Oster and Ashley Bolin. Oster, an Englewood, Colo., native, took runner-up honors in the 100-back (58.74) and 100-fly (57.61), while Bolin finished second in the 200-IM at 2:09.94.
TCU's conference schedule continues Friday as the Frogs host New Mexico at the University Rec Center on Jan. 22.
