The Butler Did It!
Kevin Butler is currently ranked second in the Mountain West Conference in offensive rebounds per game (3.4 R-G) and eighth in rebounds per game (5.8 R-G). The Duncanville, Texas, native is also ranked second on the team in rebounds per game and has recorded at least six rebounds on eight occasions.
The 6-4 forward recorded his first career double-double in a triple overtime victory over Texas State where Butler finished with 13 points to go along with a career-high 11 rebounds. The Duncanville, Texas, standout collected a career-high 18 points on 8-of-9 shooting to go along with five rebounds and two steals in 27 minutes of action in a home victory over Rice.
Butler has recorded 92 total rebounds this season with 54 of them coming on the offensive glass. In addition, Butler has recorded 11 rebounds on two occasions (Mid-America Christian | Texas State) and collected nine rebounds in a home victory over St. Gregory's. The TCU sophomore has collected at least six points and six rebounds in eight of 16 games this season.
This season, Butler is averaging 25.3 minutes per game (up from 17.3 minutes a season ago), ranks fourth on the team in court time. In addition, the 6-4 forward surpassed his total points from last season (103) and needs eight rebounds to eclipse his rebound tally from his freshman campaign.
The Green Mile
In his first season with the Frogs, Garlon Green has recorded four double-digit scoring performances, including a career-high 18 points in 29 minutes of action against Texas State. In the triple overtime victory over the Bobcats, Green connected on 10-of-14 attempts from the free throw line to go along with eight rebounds and one assist.
The 6-7 freshman made his first collegiate start against SMU as part of the State Farm DFW Duel where he saw action in 14 minutes in a victory over the Mustangs. Green currently ranks second on the team in free throw percentage (.771), third in free throws made (27), fourth in free throw attempts (35) and sixth in scoring average (4.9 P-G).
Green posted his fourth double-digit scoring performance of the season with 10 points in a home victory over St. Gregory's. In addition, the TCU freshman notched 10 points, including 4-of-4 at the free throw line, to go along with four rebounds and one blocked shot against 23rd-ranked Texas Tech.
King of the Hill
Greg Hill scored a career-high 17 points, including four three-pointers and 5-of-6 shooting at the free throw line, in 31 minutes of action against Wichita State. In addition, the TCU junior also recorded four other double-digit scoring performances: Nebraska (11 points), Texas State (11), Houston (11) and Air Force (12).
In his first season with the program, Hill is ranked fifth on the team in total points (97) and scoring average (6.5) and has posted at least five points in nine of 15 games. In addition, Hill is ranked third on the team in three-point field goal attempts (56) and three-point field goals made (14). The TCU junior has connected on at least one three-pointer in 10 of 15 games this season.
Hill is averaging 19.9 minutes per game, which leads all TCU newcomers, and ranks fifth on the team this season. The Gary, Indiana, native has seen action in at least 20 minutes in eight of 15 games, including a career-high 31 minutes on two occasions.
"X" Marks the Spot
In his first season with the Frogs, Xavier Roberson appeared in all 16 games, including four starts, where he is averaging 3.8 points and 0.9 assists per game in 11.4 minutes per evening. Roberson is currently ranked fourth on the team in assists (15) and assists per game (0.9 A-G) and has dished out at least two assists in four games this season.
The TCU freshman earned his first trip to the starting lineup against Northern Colorado where he collected his first career double-digit scoring performance (10 points). In his second career start, Roberson notched a career-high 11 points to go along with two rebounds in 27 minutes of action against Rice
Since becoming a starter, Roberson has averaged 7.0 points per game over the last four contests. Prior to joining the starting lineup, Roberson was averaging 2.8 points, but has increased that average to 3.8 points over the last four games and has averaged 21.7 minutes per game as a starter (8.0 minutes as a non-starter).
The Frogs Start Young Against Bears
The Frogs started their youngest lineup of the season against Northern Colorado in one senior (Ruzgas), two sophomores (Moss and Butler) and two freshmen (Cerina and Roberson).
Everybody Sees Playing Time
All 13 players dressed for the Frogs saw action in a home victory over Rice. This was the second time this season that the Frogs have played all 13 players. The Frogs played all 11 players that dressed against Utah.
The Baker's Dozen
Sophomore Logan Lancon is just one of 13 student-athletes majoring in engineering at TCU. The 6-6 forward was selected as an Academic All-Mountain West Conference during the 2008-09 season. This season, Lancon has appeared in eight games where he is averaging 0.4 points and 0.8 rebounds in 3.4 minutes of action.
