Collegiate Baseball Tabs 2010 Recruiting Class No. 7

FORT WORTH, Texas - For the third time in the last six years, the TCU baseball program signed a top-10 recruiting class. The 2010 class was recently tabbed as the seventh-best in the nation by Collegiate Baseball. The Frogs have previously had a third-ranked class in 2005 and the ninth-best in 2008.
"This is great recognition of the hard work of our coaching staff led by Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator, Todd Whitting," raved head coach Jim Schlossnagle. "TCU is an amazing place, with a great commitment to success both on and off the field. However, the competition in our state and region for good players is very intense and for our class to be recognized in this manner is a great statement.
"At the same time, what matters is performance on the field and in the classroom," said Schlossnagle. "So, we'll have to wait and see how this new group competes and blends with the returning players before we can judge just how important their impact will be."
The class of 13 features eight high school players and five junior college transfers. Three members of the class were drafted this past June.
Matt Purke, a left-handed pitcher, was the 14th overall pick in the draft by the Texas Rangers out of Klein High School in Houston. The Washington Nationals drafted Josh Elander, a catcher from Round Rock, in the 37th round. A utility player, Jerome Pena transferred to TCU from Western Nevada Community College and was selected in the 40th round by the New York Mets.
