ABOUT THE GAME
*TCU opens its 79th season at Amon G. Carter Stadium when it hosts Texas State.
*Texas State, ranked 19th in the Football Championship Subdivision (previously called Division I-AA), is the preseason favorite to win the Southland Conference.
*The Bobcats represent just the fourth FCS opponent (Northwestern State, 2001; UC Davis, 2006; Stephen F. Austin, 2008) that TCU has faced in Gary Patterson's nine seasons as head coach.
*A win would give Patterson his 75th victory as TCU's head coach and move him into sole possession of second place on the Frogs' all-time win list, surpassing Abe Martin (74-64-7, 1953-66).
*TCU is looking to open with a 2-0 record for the fifth time in the last seven years.
HOME OPENERS
*TCU has won seven straight home openers under head coach Gary Patterson. In five of those victories, the Frogs allowed 13 points or less.
*The Frogs' only loss in a home opener under Patterson came in 2001, in his first home game as head coach, when TCU fell 27-24 in overtime to Northwestern State.
DEFENDING THEIR HOME
*Since 1999, TCU is 50-6 in its last 56 home games at Amon G. Carter Stadium.
*At 31-4 (.886), the Frogs have the sixth-best home record in the nation over the last six seasons.
*TCU has held its opponent to seven points or less in 12 of its last 20 home games.
*The Frogs have recorded three shutouts in their past 14 home dates.
*Dating back to the 2005 campaign, the Frogs have held the opposition without a touchdown in seven of their last 20 home games. San Diego State's seven points last season came after a TCU fumble gave the Aztecs the ball at the Frog 1-yard line.
*In their last 15 home contests, the Frogs have outscored their opponents 548-125 (an average margin of 37-8).
*Only seven of TCU's last 19 home opponents have rushed for more than 55 yards.
HORNED FROG AND BOBCAT TIES
*TCU and Texas State are meeting for the first time on the gridiron.
*Prior to arriving at TCU in 2001, Horned Frog safeties coach Chad Glasgow served three seasons (1998-00) as safeties coach at Texas State.
*Texas State wide receivers coach Kevin Brown and associate head coach/co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Travis Bush are former TCU assistants under Frog head coach Gary Patterson.
*Brown was a three-year letterman (1999-00, 2002) at wide receiver for TCU before a four-year stint (2003-06) as a graduate assistant.
*Bush was also a TCU graduate assistant, serving from 2001-04.
ACC HIATUS
*Texas State is TCU's only September game not against an ACC member.
*After being one of only two teams in the nation to have an open date the first weekend of the season, TCU began the 2009 campaign last week at Virginia. The Frogs travel to Clemson next week.
