
TCU Men's Golf - Summer Update (June Recap)

The TCU men's golf program enjoyed a stellar season during the 2008-09 campaign as the Horned Frogs finished 12th in the country while capturing their first-ever Mountain West Conference Championship.
The Frogs finished ninth overall at the NCAA National Championships, which was their highest finish since the 1997 campaign and set a program record with 11 top-five finishes during this past season.
The Frogs are continuing to build on the momentum established during the spring season into the summer months as several TCU golfers have enjoyed outstanding results from a plethora of tournaments across the country.
Travis Woolf (Fort Worth, Texas | Paschal High School)
The Fort Worth product enjoyed an outstanding June tournament campaign as Woolf landed four top-25 finishes, including three showings in the top-10. Woolf captured his first tournament championship at the Southwestern Amateur as the TCU senior recorded a 72-hole score of 10-under-par 278 (72-71-65-70) en route to earning the gold medal.
In addition to the Southwestern Amateur crown, Woolf finished fourth at the 100th Texas Amateur with a 3-under-par score of 281 (74-65-69-73) at Miramont County Club in Bryan, Texas, to go along with a seventh-place showing at the Palmetto Amateur following a score of 281 (71-73-67-70). In his latest tournament, Woolf finished tied for 24th overall at The Dogwood Invitational with a 3-under-par score of 285 (71-73-69-72).
James Sacheck (The Woodlands, Texas | Zionsville High School)
A recent TCU graduate, Sacheck recorded his first-ever championship at the 100th Texas Amateur following a 5-under-par score of 279 (70-64-78-67) at Miramont County Club in Bryan, Texas. In his next appearance, Sacheck posted an eighth-place showing at the Sahalee Players Championship at the Sahalee County Club in Sammamish, Wash., with a 2-over-par score of 290 (69-73-76-72).
Scott Roudebush (Austin, Texas | Austin High School)
Roudebush recorded his best showing of the month at the Palmetto Amateur where the TCU junior finished third overall with an even-par score of 280 (72-70-71-67) at the Palmetto Golf Club. The Austin native collected a 24th-place showing at the Southwestern Amateur with a score of 288 (68-73-72-75) followed by a 31st-place finish at the Texas Amateur.
Tom Hoge (Fargo, N.D. | Fargo South High School)
Hoge recorded his best finish of the month at the Sahalee Players Championships, which featured some of the best amateur players in the country, as the TCU junior collected a 25th-place finish. The TCU All-American recorded a score of 298 (70-74-76-78) over the four-round event.
European Men's Amateur Team Championships
Alexander Knappe (Brilon, Germany | Berufs High School) and Pontus Gad (Linkoping, Sweden) represented not only the Frogs, but also their countries at the 2009 European Men's Amateur Team Championships at the Conwy Golf Club in Wales.
A member of the Swedish National Team, Gad guided his home country to a sixth-place showing following after his squad defeated Germany before falling to Scotland and France in the Team Match Play. During the individual stroke portion of the tournament, Gad recorded an 11th place showing with a two-round score of 5-under-par 139 (69-70).
Representing Germany, Knappe finished 11th overall in the individual stroke player with a 5-under-par score of 139 (69-70). Despite his home country's setbacks in Match Play, Knappe was a victor in two of his three matches as he defeated Jesper Kennegard of Sweden, 2-and-1, before recording a triumph over Finland's Henry Satama by a 5-and-4 score.
