The Horned Frogs will open the 2009 season on August 21 against the University of Texas in Austin.
Below is what GoFrogs.com believes to be the No. 8 play of 2008.
Following a 2-1 overtime victory over San Diego State in the opening round of the 2008 Mountain West Conference Tournament, TCU held Utah off the scoreboard for nearly the entire match. The Utes finally got on the board when Katy Reineke beat Kelsey Walters on a penalty kick in the 63rd minute.
The No. 8 Play Of 2008
With only a minute remaining in regulation it looked as if TCU would fall to the Utes in 90 minutes of action, but junior Lizzy Karoly evened the score in the 89th minute to ignite a wild celebration on the TCU sidelines. Karoly beat Utah keeper Emalee Rogers off assists by Katie Taylor and Caroline Starns.
On the play, the junior slid into the box from about 15 yards out toeing the ball into the lower right corner of the goal past Rogers to send the match into overtime.
The Significance
The Horned Frogs would fall in overtime, but Karoly's equalizer late in the contest was one of the most significant goals in program history. Playing in their first conference tournament semifinal match, Karoly extended the most successful season into overtime and kept TCU dreams of playing in the 2008 NCAA Tournament a possibility.
