Tom Hoge (Fargo, N.D. | Fargo South H.S.) recorded the best finish for a Horned Frog golfer since Adam Rubinson in 2002 at the NCAA National Championship after the TCU sophomore posted a third-place showing following 54 holes of action at the Inverness Country Club in Toledo, Ohio.
Hoge posted a 3-under-par score of 210 (70-70-70) en route to Oklahoma State's Rickie Fowler and Tom Glissmeyer of USC - who were ranked ninth and 43rd in the country, respectively - for a third place showing.
The TCU sophomore held first place on the leaderboard heading into the final nine holes of action with a 6-under-par score, but fell short to the number-one and two players in the country in Matt Hill of North Carolina State and Kyle Stanley of Clemson for the national title. Hill captured the national title with a 6-under-par score of 207 while Stanley earned silver medal laurels with a score of 4-under-par score of 209.
As a team, the Frogs finished ninth overall and missed the Match Play session by four strokes after notching a score of 873 (299-285-289). Oklahoma State holds the top spot on the leaderboard with a score of 849 while Arizona State (862), USC (865), Arkansas (865) and Washington (865) rounded out the top five.
"I couldn't be more proud of our team," said head men's golf coach Bill Montigel. " These guys battled all season and battled to the very end here, and for this team to finish up the season ranked ninth in the country is an incredible season. These guys did a great job, and all I have ever asked of them is to never quit and they never did."
James Sacheck (The Woodlands, Texas | Zionsville H.S.) recorded his best finish at the NCAA National Championship as the TCU senior tied for 31st overall with a score of 5-over-par 218 (75-73-70), including a 1-under-par score of 70 in his final collegiate round.
Johan de Beer (Pretoria, South Africa | Pretoria Boys' H.S.) recorded a score of 225 (77-71-77) while Scott Roudebush (Austin, Texas | Austin H.S.) and Travis Woolf (Fort Worth, Texas | Paschal H.S.) each finished tied for 110th overall with a score of 227.
The Frogs posted their best-ever finish at the NCAA National Championships since the 1997 season when TCU notched a seventh-place showing.
