FORT WORTH, Texas - The No. 28 TCU women's tennis team will face No. 36 Tulsa in the opening round of the NCAA Regionals in Fayetteville, Ark., on May 9 at Noon. The Horned Frogs will make their sixth consecutive NCAA appearance and 12th overall in school history.
The Horned Frogs earned a No. 2 seed in the Fayetteville Regional, joining No. 1 Arkansas (13-7), No. 3 Tulsa (23-5) and No. 4 Oral Roberts (9-9).
TCU posted a 16-10 overall record this year and claimed the Mountain West Conference tournament title. The Horned Frogs defeated top-seeded UNLV in the finals, carrying their winning streak to nine against the league. TCU had to also slip past Colorado State and Utah in the tournament in Albuquerque.
Three TCU women's tennis players garnered All-Mountain West Conference honors this season. Senior Macall Harkins, sophomore Katariina Tuohimaa and freshman Kayla Duncan earned all-conference singles honors, while Tuohimaa and Duncan were also tabbed for all-MWC doubles accolades.
The Golden Hurricanes head into the first round with a 23-5 record, which is the most wins in a single season in school history. Tulsa is led by a trio of 20-match winners in sophomore Alexandra Kichoutkin (25-10), senior Thalia Diaz-Barriga (23-12) and freshman Anastasia Erofeeva (31-5).
Tulsa ousted the Frogs in the first round of the Waco Regional in 2008. After dropping the doubles point, TCU bounced back to take the opening three singles matches, only to fall in the final three matchups to drop the match, 4-3.
