Flyin' Frogs Sign Samuels and Dalton

FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU track and field coach Darryl Anderson announced the signing of Kelsey Samuels and Katie Dalton to National Letters of Intent on Wednesday.
"We are excited to add two more quality student-athletes to our program," said Anderson. "We are looking forward to both of them joining us next year. We feel both of them will be not only conference level athletes for us, but also help us on a regional level."
Samuels comes to TCU following a standout career at Mesquite Horn High School in Mesquite, Texas. Samuels, who recently placed third in the girls shot put at the 2009 Texas Relays, is currently ranked third in the state in the discus with a toss of 147 feet, 10 inches and fifth in the shot put with a throw of 44 feet, 3 inches. She closed out her junior year by placing fifth in the shot put at the 2008 Texas State 5A meet.
"Kelsey Samuels is an athlete that has continued to improve throughout her high school career. She is one of the best throwers in the state of Texas and we feel she can make an immediate impact in the conference," said throws coach John Kenneson.
Dalton, a Bentonville, Ark., native, is currently the state leader in the girls 1600 meters and 3200 meters. The five-time state champion has posted seasonal-best times of 5:13.43 seconds in the 1600 meters and 11:06.42 in the 3200 meters. Dalton, who was the indoor state runner-up in both events this past winter for Bentonville High School, was a three-time all-state selection in cross country as well as an eight-time all-state selection during the indoor track and field season. Finally, the four-time outdoor track and field all-state honoree brings a wealth of championship experience with her to Fort Worth having led the Tigers to five Arkansas State Championships between cross country and track and field.
"Katie Dalton comes to us from a really good program. She has a lot of upside and will definitely help us in both cross country and on the track," said distance coach Shawn Winget.
The Flyin' Frogs will begin action tomorrow at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia.
