FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU women's soccer program raised over $7,000 this weekend hosting two Kicks For Kids Soccer Clinics to benefit Cook Children's Hospital. The event was held for youth soccer players and kindergarten through eighth-grade students, with all proceeds going directly to Cook Children's Hospital. The soccer clinics were held on Friday evening and Sunday afternoon, hosting over 149 participants from local youth teams around the metroplex.
The clinic was organized, marketed and planned completely by the women's soccer program.
"We were all excited to have such a successful event and the opportunity to work with so many children. We are so thankful for all of the players and their parents for helping us give back to the community," said senior midfielder Kelly Faerber.
The goal was to raise $2,500, but the team raised a grand total of $7,167. All proceeds will go directly to Cook Children's Hospital in Fort Worth.
"The money will be presented as a check to the hospital and will be put towards any areas they feel will be beneficial," said senior all-conference selection Lizzy Karoly.
In the past, the TCU women's soccer program has hosted dinners, auctions and participated in volunteer work for different organizations, but chose this year to devote their efforts to helping out Cook Children's Hospital in a different manner by putting on the two clinics.
"We visited the hospital last year and were able to spend some time with a few of the children. The whole team was touched and we all knew we wanted to do something special to give back to them," said Katie Taylor.
TCU closed out the 2008 season with a 14-4-2 record.
