FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU Athletics has selected Kriegler Brink (Gauteng, South Africa) and Nina Munch-Soegaard (Amarillo, Texas) as its Student-Athletes of the Week for their outstanding performances on the tennis court.
Brink helped the TCU men's tennis team post a 1-1 record last week during ITA Kick-Off Weekend competition in Austin, Texas, by remaining unbeaten on the spring in singles competition. He recorded straight-sets victories over Kellen Danico of Texas and Mahmoud Hamed from USF in No. 2 singles this past weekend. The victory over Hamed helped the Frogs claim a 4-1 decision over No. 28 USF. Brink owns a 3-0 record in singles action so far this spring, while he has a 58-18 dual-match record for his career.
Munch-Soegaard, TCU's top women's singles player, went 2-0 for the weekend, topping the reigning NCAA singles champion Amanda McDowell from Georgia Tech on her home court. Munch-Soegaard also defeated No. 35 Katie Rybakova from FSU in straight sets. It was the second time this season that Munch-Soegaard has taken down McDowell, also winning in the fall at the ITA National Indoor Championships. Undefeated in singles thus far, all of Munch-Soegaard's victories came over ranked opponents. Paired up with freshman Gaby Mastromarino, Munch-Soegaard was 1-1 in doubles play in Atlanta.
The Lady Frogs are slated to make their first home appearance on Sunday as they face No. 26 Auburn at noon.
