
Rifle Posts Another Strong Showing

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU rifle team posted yet another strong showing at the Winter Airgun Competition that is taking place at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. For the second straight day, Sarah Scherer took home top honors in the women's and women's junior competition.
After setting a national record on Friday, Scherer fired a 399 in Saturday's event to earn top spot in the 10m Air Rifle women's competition and the women's junior competition. Combined with her 103.3 in the final round, Scherer posted a total of 502.3 in the event, 0.4 points higher than the second place finisher.
In the women's junior final, Scherer blew away the competition with a tally of 102.5 to finish with a score of 501.5, more than four points higher than the closest competitor.
Sarah Beard fired another personal best with a 394 and made both finals. She notched her second straight third place finish in the junior's after firing a 102.0 in the finals for a final tally of 496.0. Beard finished seventh in the women's final after firing a 102.5 in the finals for a total of 496.5. She tied for sixth, but fell in the shoot-off to Jamie Beyerle.
In total, four Horned Frogs made up the top eight finishers in the junior sector. Caitlin Morrissey finished sixth with a grand total of 493.7 and Kaitlin Pennell came in seventh with a final tally of 493.4.
Also representing TCU in the women's competition was Erin Lorenzen who fired a 393, but lost her bid for a trip to the finals in the shoot-off.
The competition concludes on Sunday.
