FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU equestrian freshman Kolby Simonson catches up with GoFrogs.com to share about her experience so far on the team.
How long have you been riding?
"I have been riding since I was 4 years old. I began my riding career in the lead line class with my older sister as my leader."
Have you won any awards in your equestrian career?
"Yes, I have been blessed enough to experience the American Quarter Horse Youth World Show two years in a row. The first year I took one horse and made it to the finals, placing fifth. The second year I took two horses and got them both into the finals. I ended up in the top 10 on one horse and was the Reserve World Champion on the other horse. I have also won the all-around in Reining at the Arizona Sun Country Circuit, which was something my sister and I had wanted to win for a long time. It was a very big accomplishment."
What are you most excited about during your first season on the team?
"I am most excited about simply being a part of this team. We had a great kickoff to the year and all of our Western riders are strong. We are all working together to make sure we are prepared for the second part of our season."
What are your expectations for the season?
"The only thing I can expect and hope for this season is that everyone on the team has their season. I hope that no one regrets any one ride in particular and that every time we ride we all lay it all out on the line."
What is your favorite part of being on the equestrian team?
"My favorite part of being on this team is the relationships formed with my teammates and my coaches. Being a freshman was a little scary, but then I met the girls on the team. They are all amazing and so supportive. I also feel blessed to have two amazing coaches who have given so much for this team and would do anything for any rider. Coach Reynolds and Coach Huffman have become like my parents away from home. They are always there and willing to help in any situation. I also love being able to ride any day of the week. It's a great escape from school and helps me get my mind off of studying and tests."
What do you like most about being a student at TCU?
"I love every aspect of TCU. There is not one particular thing that I enjoy more than the other. It's just an all around wonderful place."
If you could participate in any sport other than equestrian, what would it be and why?
"It would probably be lacrosse. I have always loved lacrosse, although I have hardly played, but it's just so different than equestrian and it is so enjoyable to watch and play."
