FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU Athletics Department announced Sarah Scherer and Andy Dalton as its Student-Athletes of the Month while Kayla Duncan and swimming's Edgar Crespo were selected as Scholar-Athletes of the Month.
Scherer helped lead TCU to top honors at a 15-team tournament at Ole Miss, firing a program record 595 in air rifle to earn a first-place finish. The Fort Worth native again led the squad with a 594 in air rifle in the win over Kentucky, scoring 56 of her 60 shots as perfect 10's. The freshman finished with a combined score of 1,172 after firing a 578 in smallbore.
Dalton led TCU to a 5-0 record for the month, boasting a 58.6 completion percentage (68-of-116) for 1,017 yards (203.4 per game). The Katy, Texas, product passed for 10 touchdowns with just two interceptions and threw for at least two scores in four of the five games. Dalton highlighted his month with three touchdown passes in a 38-7 win at BYU and added a pair of 75-yard TD tosses in consecutive games to Antoine Hicks. Never afraid to tuck it and run, the Frogs' quarterback added 155 yards rushing on a 4.2 per carry mark.
Duncan finished the month with a 9-3 record, including a 5-3 clip against ranked opponents. After spending a week at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif., Duncan advanced to the main draw semifinals at the ITA Texas Regional in Waco. The Winston-Salem, N.C., native posted her top win over No. 32 Taylor Ormond on her home court on Oct. 18.
Crespo has exploded onto the collegiate scene, going undefeated in all eight races in his first two meets as a Frog. After securing four relay wins to help TCU topple SMU and Incarnate Word for first place accolades at the North Texas Relays, the sophomore returned to sweep the breaststroke and both relay events in the Frogs' win at 7,200 feet at the Air Force Academy.
