FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU swimming and diving teams will continue to travel through the Mountain West Conference Friday, hitting the road to take on San Diego State, UC San Diego, the University of San Diego and Idaho Friday.
The TCU men's squad will enter the Friday's meet with an overall dual meet record of 1-0 after defeating MWC foe Air Force on Oct. 23. Four Frogs won multiple events against the Falcons, highlighted by Jeff Gettel and Edgar Crespo sweeping the backstroke and breaststroke events, respectively. Senior Josh Bagby also picked up his first two wins of the year, while junior diver Kyle Callens earned MWC Diver of the Week honors for taking both springboard events.
The women's team (2-1 overall, 1-1 MWC) will look to continue the momentum after topping Air Force and Northern Colorado in their last meet. Senior Jennifer Ferguson and junior Maria Paula Alvarez highlighted the meet for TCU. Ferguson swept the diving events to earn MWC Female Diver of the Week accolades, while Alvarez pushed ahead of the crowd in the 500- and 1000-free. Senior Stephanie Futscher has also gotten off to a solid start, claiming the 200-fly in the first two meets.
San Diego State should be a strong matchup for TCU. Both squads have earned wins over Air Force, while falling to Colorado State this season. Karpeeva has registered wins in the 200 breaststroke and 200 individual medley, while Koch has a pair of victories in the 100- and 200-free.
UCSD's men's and women's teams picked up wins over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps to open the season on Oct. 24. The Tritons' enjoyed five combined multiple-event winners in the meet. USD will be competing for the first time in the 2009-10 season Friday after finishing in seventh place at the 2009 WAC Championships. Idaho enters this weekend after competing against Washington State in the Debbie Pipher Invitational on Oct. 23-24.
